Throw a... what!?

In the year 2020 a batch of transgenic potatoes went bad. The next few years, most of the sons of the people who ate the potatoes died, but the ones who survived were put into quarantine. Scientist were very interested in those people and started investigating them. They found that the people had some kind of DNA mutation and they thought it would be an indication of human evolution; they were having visible mutations: some parts of their body were growing too much.
Years later, the mutant people were released by a radical group and they spread all over the universe, hidden because they were socially withdraw, living their lives.
After many attempts from the Galactic Alien Alliance of Universal Peace (GAAUP) of locating the mutants, they decided to let them be. But that didn't stop to reveal the universe the existence of the mutants, so the GAAUP, in their intention to be forgiven, started to find a cure for the mutants. But that cure was too expensive and they found a way that it could finance the investigation. A tournament of mutants, where the money would be paid by the spectators. The winner would be the only one to get the cure.
